Artist Statement
mujero’s work is his interpretation of the intersections between diasporic Caribbean life and his queerness. His video works have been explorations into different aspects of his identity. Sculpturally, he transforms personal found objects, with an emphasis on sneakers. His deconstructive practice is a way to give form to the ways he, to quote Jose Esteban Munoz, “disidentifies” with aspects of his social and cultural upbringing. The abstract nature of the work is imperative, a way for viewers to find their own narrative and emotional resonance with the configurations, instead of looking for clear narrative answers.
