ABOUT
The Bronx Museum’s Lifelong Studio program invites adults 55+ to participate in free art classes.
For this iteration of Lifelong Studio, adults aged 55 and older are invited to the Museum for a delightful afternoon of free art-making activities as well as socializing and light refreshments.
The one-session workshop will be led by Lifelong Studio alumni Maureen Ridge, Nina Valentin, and James Horner, who will share art-making skills they’ve learned from participating in the program. Activities are designed to be fun for all skill levels—from complete beginner to expert artist.
We will confirm your enrollment via email after you sign up through this FORM. Join our email list for updates on future Lifelong Studio workshops.
Skill Share Activities
Workshop participants are welcome to try any and/or all of the art-making activities throughout the event.

Watercolor Painting with Maureen Ridge
Use watercolors to create a painting from a chosen image or landscape photo. While there's no one right way to paint, participants will learn watercolor painting techniques that can enhance their painting. We encourage participants to bring in photographs or other images that will inspire their painting.

Byways: The Art of Poetic Collage with Nina Valentin
We'll explore the power of words, using prompts from art, poetry, and song lyrics. Participants will write a poem about life, love, and community and combine it with collage, resulting in a one-of-a-kind artwork. Participants are welcome to bring their own images for the collage and write in a freeform poetry style, making this a fun poetry slam for all.

Zine Making with James Horner
Participants will create a zine about their passions (for example, art, poetry, cooking). Zine, short for magazine, is a noncommercial and often homemade or online publication devoted to a specialized and often unconventional subject matters. Participants are welcome to bring their own images to the workshop to supplement the provided newspaper/magazine images, and art-making materials.
