Biography

Jiwon Rhie is a Korean multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn. Her work deals with diverse subject matter across installations, sculptures, and video, exploring ideas of boundaries, human relationships, cultural identities, and communication. Through research and a project-based process, she visualizes personal and social experiences into art forms by capturing her sensitivity and a feeling of adaptation.

​Jiwon holds an MFA from Pratt Institute (2019), a BFA from Hannam University (2014), and a BFA in Visual Communication Design from Hongik University (2010).

She has shown her work throughout the United States, including a solo exhibition at NARS Foundation and various group shows at 4Heads, Tropical Contemporary, HOME gallery, THE BORDER, NARS Foundation, Korean Cultural Center NY, and Petty Cash. Jiwon was selected for diverse fellowships and grants, including The Bronx Museum of Arts, A.I.M Fellowship, AHL – T& W Foundation Contemporary Visual Art Award, and Queens Art Fund Award by The Queens Council on the Arts. She has participated in residency programs at Chinatown Soup (New York, NY), 4Heads AIR (Governors Island, NY), NARS Foundation (Brooklyn, NY), and Vermont Studio Center (Burlington, VT).
