Teen Council Exhibition: 'NYC, What Moves You?'
On View May 22–June 16, 2024
Opening: Wednesday, May 22 • 5–7PM
NYC, What Moves You? is an art exhibition organized by the Spring 2024 cohort of The Bronx Museum’s Teen Council program.
Through an open call, the Teen Council invited teen artists from all boroughs of New York City to submit artworks highlighting their sources of inspiration with this prompt:
Inspiration can come from anything, whether it’s nature, heritage, social issues that impact us, personal connections, or even the red stain on the wall.
Indeed these teen artists show us that inspiration can spark from even the smallest things. Expressed through a range of mediums, such as photography and surrealist illustrations, the exhibiting teens share what personally inspires them.

The Teen Council
Teen Council is a four-month paid internship for New York City high school students (ages 14-19), offered in both the fall and the spring.
Created in 2005, Teen Council offers opportunities for young people to engage deeply with contemporary art and the museum space. In this intensive after-school program, teens discuss and express ideas and create art relating to issues affecting young people today. Participants also gain experience in collaboration, communication, and curation. Teens may participate in one or both sessions each year.
The Teen Council Exhibition
Every year, The Bronx Museum invites participants in the Teen Council program to curate an exhibition of their peers’ artwork.
The Teen Council participants collaboratively determine the exhibition’s theme and then invite NYC-based artists ages 14–19 to submit their artwork through an open call. Artworks selected by Teen Council participants from the open call are then displayed in the Museum’s galleries for the duration of the exhibition.
