As part of The Bronx Museum’s Lifelong Studio program of free art-making classes for adults age 55+, we are delighted to offer this workshop on experimental bookmaking!
Through this workshop, participants will dive into a unique bookbinding technique: coptic binding. While developing and creating detailed bookbinds, participants will also be introduced to many methods of bookmaking, such as book cloth design, pockets, and pop-up additions.
In addition to teaching historical and technical concepts, the workshop also aims to expand the notion of the book. Through experimental variations with material, texture, content, and shape, this bookmaking workshop will allow students to define what a book is to them. By the end of our time together, each participant will have created a unique book that will be celebrated at a final event/art book fair.
