Curated by Eileen Jeng Lynch, Director of Curatorial Programs at The Bronx Museum, Bronx Calling: The Sixth AIM Biennial (Part One) showcases the work of 26 emerging artists who completed the Museum’s annual AIM Fellowship program in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
In response to the world-altering events of the past four years, these AIM Fellows have been exploring urgent issues through their work—critiquing systems of power through the lens of lived experience and cultural identity as well as pushing boundaries of visual language and materiality. Some artists sought to apply the lens of lived experience to contemporary issues; others used it as a launching pad to imagine possible solutions and speculative futures.
A range of new and recent works that have never been seen before will be on view in the AIM Biennial, and for many of the participating artists, this is their first opportunity to exhibit work in an institutional setting.
The Museum also invited exhibiting AIM Fellows to further engage the public in their respective artistic practices through artist-led public programming.

THE BRONX MUSEUM ARTIST FELLOWSHIP
The Bronx Museum’s AIM program is singular among artist fellowships in conceit, longevity, and impact. The program began in 1980 and has since served more than 1,200 artists. AIM is not a studio fellowship. Instead, it is designed to be a career accelerator for the most promising artists based in any of the five boroughs of New York City—including, but not limited to, the Museum’s own borough of The Bronx. The AIM Fellowship is designed to equip artists with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the art world today. Fellows are selected for the program through a competitive open-call application process and awarded a nine-month practicum led by a distinguished faculty of experts covering finance, law, media management, and writing, among other subjects vital to maintaining and growing a successful career as an artist. With an over 40 year history, the Fellowship continues to grow lasting community and support networks amongst artists based in NYC.
