Biography

Karl Orozco is a project-based visual artist residing in Albuquerque, NM. He specializes in creating participatory installations that delve into the typologies and iconographies prevalent in the manufactured world. Karl finds immense fascination in the collective potency of the multiple and the narrative potency of the sequential.

Drawing from his background as both a printmaker and animator, Karl’s installations blend the repetition inherent in printmaking with the expansiveness of video to construct expansive and interactive environments. Each project serves as a meticulous exploration of a significant social artifact, meticulously researched through field studies and archival methods.

Karl Orozco’s approach involves presenting these artifacts to their respective communities via site-specific installations, encouraging public engagement through craft, play, ritual, and performance. Together with the audience, he facilitates the attribution of personal significance to the symbols and shapes pervasive in contemporary material culture, fostering a collective reflection on their social significance.
