On the first Friday of every month, The Bronx Museum throws a free after-hours party called “First Friday!” We hope you’ll RSVP for free to join us on April 3rd for “First Friday: Bring Your Own Book!”—a literary lounge where books meet energy, conversation, and creativity.

Bring your favorite read and enter a space designed for connection, discovery, and the magic of shared stories. Enjoy social and art activities led by Tasha Dougé, music spun by crowd favorite, DJ Curly Nez, and complimentary light bites and beverages (while supplies last). The galleries will also be open late with our critically acclaimed exhibition, The Seventh AIM Biennial: Forms of Connection, on view.

About the Program

The program unfolds across three interactive experiences designed to get you talking, creating, and connecting:

📖 Rapid Reads

A fast-paced, playful twist on speed dating—but make it books. You’ll rotate through quick-fire conversations, sharing and discovering stories in just two minutes at a time. The catch? No author names, no genres—just vibes, characters, and plot. If there’s a match, you will walk away with a gift card to a local Bronx bookstore.

✂️ DIY Bookmark Bar

Tap into your creative side and design your own custom bookmark using collage materials, magazines, and repurposed books—a small, personal artwork to carry into your next read.

🔁 The Book Xchange

Bring a gently loved book and trade it for something new. It’s a chance to give stories a second life—and discover one you didn’t know you needed. Any remaining books will be shared with Little Libraries across The Bronx, extending the impact beyond the room.

Featuring

Tasha Dougé

tasha dougé (she/her) is a Bronx-bred and based, Haitian-infused conceptual visual and performance artist, activist, and cultural vigilante whose work lives at the intersection of art, intention, and community care. Her multidisciplinary practice challenges ideas of identity, history, and iconography and explores memory, time, and nature through the lens of Black womanhood. She uses her art as a tool for reflection, connection, transformation, as well as collective imagining.

DJ Curly Nez

CURLY NEZ is a proud Bronx native whose soundscape bridges the pulse of House, the soul of R&B, and the grooves of Latin rhythms infused with the spirit of her Afro-Puerto Rican roots. Her global approach to music has led her to share stages and spaces with Grammy Award-winning creatives such as Robert Glasper, bringing her dynamic energy to every crowd she touches. From spinning at the US Open, Gabriela's and House of Yes to electrifying nights at Deluxx Fluxx and venues throughout Puerto Rico, CURLY NEZ curates immersive musical journeys that move both body and soul. Every set is a celebration, a musical journey designed to uplift your spirit.

*Please note that this event may include loud music.

**Groups of any size organized privately and through a school, community center, or other entity must register through our Group Tours form at least one week in advance of their visit. Due to capacity limitations, groups are not engaged through this program. Thank you for understanding.
