The Bronx Museum Permanent Collection
About
The Bronx Museum has over 1,800 works in a permanent collection that spans all types of media and represents contemporary artists from across the globe. From the start of the collection program in the early 1990s, the Museum has sought to acquire works that reflect the communities of The Bronx, with particular emphasis on artists of color and other marginalized identities.
The Museum is also committed to collecting work by notable contemporary artists from The Bronx and artists whose work is related to creative movements born in the borough like Hip-Hop, Graffiti, and Latin Jazz.
Artists represented in the collection include Romare Bearden (US), Tania Bruguera (Cuba), Seydou Keita (Mali), Dinh Q. Le (Vietnam), Nikki S. Lee (Korea), Whitfield Lovell (US), Ana Mendieta (Cuba), Helio Oiticica (Brazil), Pepon Osorio (Puerto Rico), Liliana Porter (Argentina), Juan Sanchez (US), Xu Bing (China), Kara Walker (US), and Martin Wong (US).
The extraordinary scope and depth of the Museum’s permanent holdings have been made possible by the generosity and support of donors who align with the institution’s mission and share in its values of cultural heritage and social justice.
