For Adults Age 55+
Free! Registration Required
As part of The Bronx Museum’s Lifelong Studio program, offering free art-making workshops to adults aged 55 and older, we are delighted to welcome artist Hedwig Brouckaert to teach this one-session collaging class titled “Material and Energy Transmutation.”
Brouckaert previously participated in the Museum’s prestigious AIM Fellowship—a career accelerator for the most promising artists based in NYC. Her intricate work, Anthropocene rock garden (new earth), 2025, is currently on view in The Seventh AIM Biennial: Forms of Connection.
The artist describes “Material and Energy Transmutation” as follows: The workshop will begin with a discussion about the materials Brouckaert uses in her artistic practice – expanded polystyrene debris that she collects from NYC’s waterways, and magazines – which she transforms to address environmental issues.
Brouckaert will lead a short grounding exercise inspired by Qigong practice, which can transform negative emotions into healing and positive energy. Participants will then engage in a hands-on collage workshop, working with magazines and waste packaging, deconstructing and transforming messages from advertising and mass media into a new narrative.
