Free! Registration Required
As part of The Bronx Museum’s Lifelong Studio program, offering free art-making workshops to adults aged 55 and older, we are delighted to welcome artist Nazli Efe to teach this one-session wax sculpture-making class titled “Into the Depths.”
Efe previously participated in the Museum’s prestigious AIM Fellowship—a career accelerator for the most promising artists based in NYC. Her multi-layered works, Open Weave No. 1 – 6, 2024–2026, are currently on view in The Seventh AIM Biennial: Forms of Connection.
The artist describes her Lifelong Studio workshop as follows: Inspired by kurşun dökme (molybdomancy), a traditional divination method practiced in Turkiye, this workshop led by Nazli Efe invites participants to create forms by pouring molten beeswax into water. The Water manifests itself in forms that wait to be read. As the wax solidifies, participants engage in free association and reflection, responding to the emerging shapes through writing, poetry, or sketching.
Gathering around Water—our primordial mother—the workshop creates a meditative space that mirrors the unconscious, drawing out memories, emotions, and personal insights. The forms created during the session, along with participants’ reflections, will be installed together, culminating in a collective sculptural work.
