About the Exhibition: Transcending the Form features artwork created by participants of Lifelong Studio, The Bronx Museum’s program offering free, sequential, hands-on artmaking workshops to adults ages 55 and over.
Having found the balance between technique and play, these artists present original acrylic paintings that boldly blur the lines between figuration (representing physical form) and abstraction (expressing the intangible). In doing so, the artists aim to communicate truths about a subject while transcending its original form. Touching on themes such as the body, kinship, nature, movement, emotion, and the subconscious, these paintings invite viewers to explore what is recognizable not only in sight, but in feeling.
