This workshop with AIM Artist Diana Guerra is part of the 7th AIM Biennial Culminating Open House, featuring a variety of activities and ways to engage with artists currently exhibiting work in The Seventh AIM Biennial: Forms of Connection.

About the Program
Guerra describes her program, titled ‘Across Memory and Archive’, as follows:
“The workshop invites participants to engage in a visualization exercise that evokes memories and sensations, encouraging them to explore their sense of origin and belonging. Originally inspired by immigrant memoryscapes and their significance within diasporic identity, ‘Across Memory and Archive’ creates an experimental space for participants to reflect on which parts of their histories serve as anchors of home. Through writing, drawing, and transferring their own archival images onto fabric, attendees will create visual remnants that connect their past to their present in The Bronx.”

About Diana Guerra
Guerra describes her work as follows: ”
My work takes the personal archive as a starting point to explore notions of home and a sense of belonging as a Latine immigrant in the United States. Through photography, film, and new media, I focus on the complex duality that shapes our immigrant identities. The simultaneous feeling of being neither here nor there opens a conversation on how to visualize being in a third space that we create on a daily basis.
I am here to discuss how a personal archive is usually conceived, shared, and preserved. In that sense, my artistic practice supports a transition of this visual universe from the private sphere to a communal/public one, where…”
About Greetings from Rosita aus Peru Brooklyn
This short experimental film, shown as a three-channel installation, explores both Diana Guerra’s mother’s migration story from rural to urban Peru and the artist’s own journey as an immigrant in Brooklyn, New York. Combining found footage with original footage recorded in 2024 in Peru, the work conveys the displacement and disconnection of not belonging and the possibility of creating new identities and homes.
