Beginning in summer 2026, The Bronx Museum extended programming beyond our walls and into our surrounding neighborhood through the Meet Me At The Park series! For this iteration of Meet Me At The Park, artists Jodie Lyn-Kee Chow and Asia Stewart presented free performances for all ages in Joyce Kilmer Park—located just one block south of the Museum on Grand Concourse.
Titled Black August: The Political Potential of Performance, this presentation drew on traditions of Black feminist performance art and social practice with Stewart’s and Lyn-Kee-Chow’s performances related to Black liberation, joy, and resistance. Following their performances, the artists engaged in a conversation moderated by Michael Paul Britto.

About The Artists
Both artists completed the Museum’s prestigious AIM Fellowship (a career accelerator program for the most talented ascendant artists based in NYC) in 2024 and are currently exhibiting work in our North Wing gallery as part of The Seventh AIM Biennial: Forms of Connection.
Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow
My artistic practice becomes a powerful means to explore and express the complexities of my identity and the evolving landscapes of both Jamaica and the U.S. The juxtaposition of my early memories of Jamaica, frozen in time yet evolving in meaning, with my experiences as an immigrant in the U.S., highlights the dynamic nature of cultural identity.

Asia Stewart
My works make the remnants of colonial, capitalist, and patriarchal violence visible and tactile. Familial, community, and national histories and archives also serve as inspirations for my works, which offer audiences specific vignettes of my experiences of moving through this world as a Black queer femme.

Exhibited Projects
Both artists participated in The Seventh AIM Biennial: Forms of Connection exhibition at The Bronx Museum in 2026. Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow exhibited an installation comprising the pieces Valor & Revolt (2024-25) and Meet Me In the Sky Parlor (2023). Asia Stewart exhibited an installation titled the money is in the blades (2025).

Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow’s works here explore survival and resilience, particularly through the lives of enslaved people in Jamaica. The artist created the ceramic pieces, inspired by images of 17th-century African tools, as a deeply personal process of connecting to ancestral memory and clay as a medium. The video, 'Meet Me in the Sky Parlor', depicts Lyn-Kee-Chow as Mary Williamson, an 18th-century enslaved woman; through performance, she connects to and maintains the story and voice of an undertold historical figure.

Asia Stewart’s performance and multimedia piece, 'the money is in the blades', clarify a conflicted relationship to her country into a destructive action that exposes patriotism’s reliance on the military-industrial complex.

CONVERSATION MODERATOR: MICHAEL PAUL BRITTO
Michael Paul Britto is a contemporary artist whose work spans video, photography, sculpture, collage, and performance to explore issues of race and class in the United States. A passionate educator, Britto integrates his artistic practice into his teaching, particularly in underserved communities. He is the co-founder of the "Young Men of Color" film and video training program at the Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV).

PERFORMER ACCOMPANYING JODIE LYN-KEE-CHOW: FITZMORE P. CODOGAN
Fitzmore P. Codogan(He/They) is a New York born and shaped performance artist. He is a performer who pushes to show truth and deeper meaning within his work. He busies himself in his spare time by writing poetry and songs, as well as serving his community as a positive presence and youth mentor. Fitzmore is an alumni of the Studio Acting program at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and continues to learn while pursuing his BFA and future opportunities.
